New chicks this morning!

Thanks for all the replies.

We like variety also. We already have some traditional breeds such as SLW, Delaware, and BSL. But I've always wanted to get a variety of chicks that you don't see everyday, as well as adding color to the flock.

Yeah, I wonder if they may pack them too tight. There was hardly room for them to move, and the shavings they put in the box took up another 4 or 5 inches of space. I could easily see how a weak or small chick could get trampled. The Houdan and the Spanish (the one that was DOA) were both the smallest chicks in the box.

I'm not sure if it's in their nature, or the fact that they're likely all roos, but the RIR are much more "pecky" that all the other breeds that I got. If I knew that any were pullets, I'd definitely keeps those, but I don't want to wait weeks and weeks to find out

The stamp on the invoice said the extras were all male.

This morning, the Houdan was running around and perky, like nothing had ever happened. Looks like he'll make it, but perhaps with a little brain damage

Are those the ducks that look shiny green/black when grown? So pretty
