If you have a health certificate for each bird or that covers every bird; within 30 days of your travel dates and you have NPIP certificate for each bird. Without it, the checkpoint will get you and your birds confiscated and destroyed. That is what I was told by the California State Department of Transportation, State Dept of Agriculture and California Highway Patrol last year when moving. Calirfornia is INSANE so I ended up moving from Oregon to Kentucky via skirting the cali border and coming through Utah and I had all the health certificates and NPIP paperwork but I would have killed someone before they so much as touched one of my chickens or ducks, much less taken them. California is ridiculous with their nonsense.

If you are moving to Cali buy birds there.

Thanks Cetwin. I was a little nervous after your Cali-rant!

LOL no worries but I lived a few miles from the border and it irritated me I had to take the northern route, hit a white out and 2 snowstorms, taking over a week to get here because of those idiots. hahahaha A friend of ours who is a disabled veteran got stopped at the checkpoint with his U-Haul, they unloaded his entire u-haul looking for firearms because "being a military man we know you have them" and when they found nothing, they moved on...not re-loading the u-haul or assisting in anyway....he spent hours trying to hire people to re-load it. So...I have no use for Cali's crapola and there are good people that live there so it is not all bad

You know scbatz33 Sarah, if not (I think you do), her gander was killed by 3 mini donkeys, they tagged teamed it (all females) and stomped him...Sarah had to put him down he was so bad. I am glad yours are sweet but man the females I would not trust around my birds after seeing those 3 wenches. hahahaha They sure are cute though.

I was worried at first about how they would react to each other, the chickens and donkeys. So far, other than Diana scaring them when she comes too close, it has all been good. Jack has been a ranch donkey so he is used to other animals. He only hates coyotes. I am going to fence in an area to give the birds their scratch and treats and keep the donkeys out. That is when I worry about accidental trampling. But thanks for the head's up. I'll keep a watchful eye out.

So I guess you won't be driving in for the northern California Chickenstock?

WOW! I guess I'll cross that bridge (or not!) when the time comes. Thanks for the info. I have 4 birds, so health certificates may be worth it, but maybe not!
