New coop or new garage...which would you do if you had to choose one

I'm planning to build a new coop this fall just so my husband can get to park his car in the old garage! I stole it from him last winter on freezing nights so my bantams could have a warmer place to sleep.

crazy question. garage of course. no fowl unless you are commercialized farming needs a coop that big. but heres how to have best of both worlds....build the garage and then spend a lil more $$ and put a shed roof off the back and/or side and make that your coup. perhaps even wrap the roof around 2 sides and give them plenty of room. you can make it big as you want. but you dont want to go too big, it will look silly if the shed roof overpowers the asthetic lines of the A framed roof.

I've never had a garage. I've always wanted a nice coop though, so I guess my opinion is biased... How about a compromise? Build a slightly smaller/cheaper coop and use the rest of the budget for a carport?

You can always build the garage and later convert it to a chicken coop...

I had garage space for 2 (maybe 3) cars -- until the chickens took over.

After I'm done brooding for the year, we'll get one space back.

the garage would just end up getting filled up with birds anyway, best to just build for that purpose to start out with...

I'd definately take the garage. Once you have a real garage, you can use the inside of it to build your coop, then take the coop outside where it belongs. But, I'm biased, own every tool known to man and make everything. LOL

we have a beautiful over sized two car garage.. only problem is. there has never been a vehicle in it.. hubby uses it for his work shop and builds the coops out doors lol.. we also get about 200" of snow in the winter.. if he is happy shoveling off the cars then i am happy. works out for both of us

Have both. Build a tall two-car garage and extend the roof out 12-16 feet for a chicken coop across the back. you could make the garage area extra deep so that the chickens' coop area could be the back part of the garage.
