New coop!!

Sorry 28in! As far as nesting boxes... they like the height so I’m not gonna change it. Not that it has any correlation, butsince they have moved to the new higher nest boxes, egg production has almost doubled.
How about some updated pictures???
It's not the higher nesting boxes that has increased egg production it's the way your chickens are showing you thanks for all the hard work you put in!!
:celebrate:thumbsup

In the old coop?
Change in height and production coincidental......sun is getting higher.

That will happen if you don't have the stagger far enough apart. Once one is on the roost it should be far enough away so the the one under it can easily duck or be out of the way from the bird above it. Usually 12"-16" preferably 16" up and 16" over will take care of that problem.

12'' were not enough for my crazy chickens, lol.

So they can get into the nests without a perch in front of them?
If I remove the perch they can. But it’s only 16in off the ground with 3-4in of flakes. So let’s say compaction to 1 in of flake. Add the 2, subtract the 1, multiply by 10, .... And about 15in off their standing ground. I remove the perch they can get in. In fact they move from box to box without perch by walking on the board that keeps the flakes in the nesting box.

Now it’s not a walk in nest but they don’t need the perch to get in. I just put it there more because I see everyone’s nesting boxes and even the nesting boxes you buy online having them. So I figured that it something nice for the chickens to have.

now even I did see two hens in the same nesting box yesterday... even though there was 3 more open and I saw later on 1 hen waiting on a different nesting box to be empty even though there was 2 more open. Like waiting in line for a bathroom stall.

I just want to say how much I appreciated by jumping in to help me out. I will say over these last two coupe projects I’ve learned a lot. And a lot of that’s been because of yall. Thanks

Put a fake egg in all nests to 'spread the love'.

Remove what perch....looking back at pics in this thread I cannot really see the front of the nests.

Ohhhh!! My bad. There is a perch about 6 inches from the top board that holds the flakes inside the nesting box. For some reason I was thinking that it was being suggested that the perch in front of the nesting boxes was not a good idea. In my mind I was thinking, but after laying their egg they kind a like to sit on the little perch for 2 to 3 minutes after laying there egg.

No I did at curtains to the nesting boxes to make it a little darker inside the nesting boxes.

They are just stapled on for in case they don’t like them. They are drawn back into V shape as aposded to just dangling there

I don’t know if I’m liking the skylight. It makes the nesting boxes lined up. The only good thing about the skylight, is our moon light lights up enough for them to see the perches to sleep on at night
