After accidentally hijacking Klyn's intro, I thought it was time to introduce myself and how I got into this chicken life
First, I want to thank everyone for the incredible knowledge that is shared in these forums... You have helped us more than you can ever know.
Originally, I was rather uninspired by the whole chicken idea, but I wanted to eat more naturally. Then, we started researching breeds, and I thought, "Okay crazy chicken people...". I had no idea how absolutely bonkers I would go over our little feathered girls. The first night we brought them home, we set them up in the brooder in our living room (we wanted them socialized), and all four of my kids and my husband and I watched them for hours! We have become so devoted to caring for them, and I honestly feel that this time with them has been such a growth period for everyone in my family. The chicks gave our sons and daughters something awesome to bond over, and they reminded all of us how important it is to care and nurture
All the kids take such pride in the little things that we do to care for the chicks, and they do them joyfully
... So, of course, six weeks later, WE GOT MORE!!
Here is our chicken family... I'm just going to lump both groups together in alphabetical breed order:
(2) Barnevelders, (2) Brabanters: 1 Cream and 1 Gold, (2) Brahmas: 1 Buff and 1 Light, (1) D'Anvers Bantam: Blue Quail, (2) D'Uccle Bantams: Light or Porcelain, (2) Easter Egger Ameracaunas, (1) Plymouth Rock: Barred, and a Welsummer
Our Cream Brabanter at only a few weeks old.
All the older girls hanging around the deck at about seven weeks old while they are free ranging... (LtoR) Cara: Barnevelder, Posh: Cream Brabanter, Mia: Barnevelder, Aang: Ameracauna Easter Egger, Petra: Barred Plymouth Rock and Qisma: Ameracauna Easter Egger.
Helping us build the coop
I look forward to hearing from other crazy chicken people like myself
