New duck hiding what should I do?

Everything is scary and new and she needs time to adjust. I would not try and handle her or force her to do anything right now. I would leave her somewhere quiet where she can see and hear your other duck but she can hide if she prefers. If she had a larger platic tote or cardboard box on it's side or dog crate with a towel over it like a cave that she could go in and out of so that she feels like she has a safe place to hide out it might help, and then she can venture out or just look around the corner when she feels ready. I agree that you should at least get her out from behind the dresser.

And being this is a Runner they can really stress out easily. I think letting the 2 be together in a pen with enough room they can get away from each other in case of picking but I can tell you mine are so accepting when Someone bought Muscovy ducklings from me she also took 3 other ducklings and 1 was a Runner she changed her mind a few months later decided she didn't want a Runner so she brought the Runner back I made a pen for her so they could all meet and not get picked on I was so surprised the Runners came and just hung out right at her pen for half a day I ended up letting her out and she joined with them like she had always been here and she left at 3 days old.

Well this morning I woke up and the new one was standing outside of the pen talking to my female runner. I slowly walked over and put a dish of water and food there and I also put a open dog cage there for her to go in if she wants. I'll keep just offering her water and food and hoping she will want to get back in the pen with my female. I am putting together a coop outside next weekend. So in the meantime I will just be patient and make sure she's okay. This is the pen I have set up and like I said my female sleeps in it at night.

Awe... sounds like they are making friends. This is good news. She will come out of her shell.

That’s great news, they are so bonded to their own I don’t think it will take long before they are best buds!

Raenh, I actually ordered it online it's a non inflatable pool and it's frame is made of pvc pipe. The brand is intex and I fill it with straw and my female runner loves it, she digs through it with her beak. I change all the straw everyday and it's waterproof so that makes it easy to clean.

Awesome - I'll have to look it up as it'll be perfect for when I get my place and can have babies inside again and not have to sneak them in.
