New Duck House!

I am also looking to make them a pond of some sort. I dont know If i should put it inside their run or build something they can use during the non freezing months outside of the run when im home. Any thoughts? Would they be happy with just a 4x4 or 8x4 pond inside the run ? i worry it may take up too much room

You really want to keep their run and house as dry as possible.

I am already worried its going to stay wet under that roof and not dry out as much as i would like it to so i think this is going to be the best bet. Is there anything i can use on the floor in the run to keep it from staying wet? I feel like just leaving dirt will end up being a mess and if i use pine shavings how often would they need to be replaced?
4 ducks. For food and water i assume i should keep in the run and not in the house. Does anyone have any suggestions or links to good feeders ?

Yep you talking mud no way around it unless you pour concrete even if you put down something like river rock over the ground the ducks will work them into the ground till they won’t be on top any longer. Some use sand I have no idea how that would work since I’ve never used it. Shavings will need to be raked up and disposed of several times a year I am thinking, mine are not in a pen they have half acre fenced to hang out into but the part they hang out in the most can get pretty stinky I use buckets of water and white vinegar to wash down those areas. That’s where a lot of shaving was dumped during winter. I think if you want to keep that nice run you built dry and non stinky it would be best to erect some fencing and put the pool outside their run. Keep feed and water outside of your coop. Once they are 6 weeks and over they can go over night with out both.

I found this when googling https://www.bing.com/images/search?...pvt=ponds+for+domestic+water+fowl&FORM=IQFRML

I’m here in PA so we have the same weather I’m by the Del.Gap.
I use straw and it works fine don’t use hay that stinks when wet and is like a sponge with water.I just turn the straw every day and it stays good I change it about once a month and I have 10 ducks and three chickens so it gets plenty of abuse and poop.

A few weeks ago I put up a post asking how to build a good duck house and here are our results. I think it came out pretty good :)

The total size is 8x12 with a 4x4 enclose house inside. One door for us to access the house and another door for us to access the pen. Hardware cloth has been pretty much attached to every hole from the inside.
Wow, you should make a coop article in the articles section!
