New duck owner - Indian runner ducks

jduck1996, that is brilliant! Great job. :) I'm sure you will see their water will stay much cleaner this way, and they can't get in to get all wet and cold when you're not home.

I cut a notch in a solo cup at the rim and put it in the bowl...lol...it worked
Looks great!

...thank you both...and here the cool part...since the cup isnt held to the bottom...when they get water, they can push the cup fowards to move it outta the way, and when their ddone, itll just fall back Into position.

Heres the home...lol...

Very lovely.

I need to ask something because my ducklings could get into the most unimaginable trouble! So, I see there are panels just outside the brooder. Is there any way a little duckling could get its head caught between the coated wire and the panels? Because with my little brood, if they could they would! Oh, the stories - - - Everyone made it to adulthood, but I declare I have many more gray hairs from some of their antics. oof.

I wouldnt worry about it too much...as long as the panels are sonewhat flush with the wire...they should be ok...thus the reason for the toys...to kep them busy...lol...the panels keep mess inside the brooder when the sling food and water, they make them feel safer, and they keep the dog from seeing them

I'm getting a couple of runner ducks tonight, i have an enclosed run with chickens and 1 muscovy drake.

I'm planning on feeding them the 23% protein chick starter non medicated cut with scratch.. i hope that's ok. Plus they will get plenty of veggie scraps, do i need to set up another nesting area for them to lay eggs, or can they get up to the nesting boxes?

Are they adult ducks? If they are adults, they need niacin and they don't need such a high protein content. If they're babies, they shouldn't be eating scratch. Like, at all. And they still need niacin. Did I mention niacin? Niacin!

P.S. Scovies are perching ducks. Runners aren't. You're gonna need to make some nesting boxes that are ground-level. The scovies will probably appreciate that, too.

I would not put the Runners in with the chickens and the drake. Not tonight.

They need time to get acquainted, and Runners are less than half the size of the drake - I fear for their safety.

I'm with the others. They can't just all go together and call it good. They will need time to adjust before even being with everyone else. Also depending on the size of your Muscovy drake that could be a problem. Are you only getting females or males and females too? Chickens are known to have a serious pecking order and these ducks may cause problems with that if things aren't taken slowly.
