Hello! I’m hoping someone can help guide me with my new hatchling. My little duck just hatched this morning. Poor little guy has a bit of yolk still protruding from his abdomen, but I’m just curious if he’s healed enough to let it alone. He is still attached to the egg, he hasn’t attempted to get up, but is otherwise alert and moving. Thanks!
(He’s a Pekin and Khaki Campbell 1st gen)

Maybe this person and this person can help you... I just hatched two myself so still a newbie.

Place your wee one inside of a cup or small bowl on a soft cloth in the bator give it time the yolk will go in on its own but putting it inside a cup or bowl will keep your duckling from catching it on something and ripping it open.

Thank you Miss Lydia! This is where we are now. Literally hanging by a thread. There is a strong vein there and the connection is very moist so I’ve got him closed up in the incubator in the bowl. Does it look okay?

Don’t put wet paper towels on him just let the duckling rest he needs to absorb the yolk now hopefully it won’t take long.
Thank you so much! Those paper towels are dry. I’ll let you know how he progresses! We have a soft spot for this little one, his momma passed away 2 days ago, and he is all we have left of her!

Hi everyone! So far Lil Duck is doing well! No longer attached to the egg and the yolk has completely absorbed! Now working on holding his head up and moving around Thank you for the help!
