Well I went out to the coop today to refill waterers, and notice a chicken nesting in the shavings. (not the nesting box) Could it be?.........maybe a blue egg coming? NOPE. The BCM girl beat the Ameraucana's to it. She is 19 1/2 weeks and the 4 Ameraucana's are almost 23 weeks.

And the girl that laid it:

And while I was at it, I took pics of the freeloaders.

Yummmm, this apple tree looks tasty, think she'll notice?

Who me? I wasn't doing anything, really I'm not. Just standing here looking pretty.

Just chilling. (I think she'll be the first to lay me a blue egg)

Now, that's from a BCM.....which is Black Copper Maran? (relative newbie, just want to make sure). That is a gorgeous brown egg. I have two Welsummers that won't start laying for quite awhile, and I am looking forward to the dark chocolate and mottled eggs.

I have to agree with Theoldchick....makes me want another cup of coffee and some breakfast!

The black hen with wattles is not an EE or Amerucuana, it looks more like possible a Black Copper Maran....by any chance did you have some Marans? It does not look like Black Australorp tho.

Yes, the egg and the girl in the top 2 pics is my Black Copper Marans. (she doesn't have a lot of coppering, but it's there.....just doesn't show up in the photo well) I just wasn't expecting an egg from her since she's 3 weeks younger than my pure Ameraucana's. But she decided to beat them to it. The pictures of the freeloaders under my apple tree, with the muffs and beards are my pure Ameraucana's.
