New Egg Day

Today was new eggs day at our house.

DW was putting away the birds and came in and told me to hold my hand out. One of the Araucanas laid her first, a nice little egg.

10 minutes later she came back in with two first attempt Black Copper Marans eggs, both soft shelled. Looks like they need a change in feed and some shells. Color was really impressive, too bad on the soft shells.

Now, if we can get everyone cranked up it will be crazy around here.

Wow, congrats on your first eggs!

Mine were hard shelled. I don't know why, maybe it's the heat over here. We never feed our chickens any grit and they've always been fine, i suppose it's because they eat the ground. They free range all day and do not know the likes of a coop. We have a large, soily garden.
