Pottery crocks, used to soak pig fat in it to cure them with salt, pickles used to get pickle and lots of wine comes out of crocks.
What type of crock are you talking about ChickaD?

Oh, spook, it was a lame joke: I thought you meant crock pots (something I can't live without in winter), but then I thought of crocs, as in crocodiles...and somehow canning them came to mind...looks like I've been breathing too much of that chicken dust again...

Hey, now you explain that I have to laugh...don't mind me I was breathing paint fumes!!!

Is it only me or can you folks recall preserving food in a crock? I guess I have lived to far in the woods (6 miles from town) and feeling a bit like a hillbilly.

But thats ok, I hear a wee little OOOOOOdoooooooo

from a certain little roo on the porch...reminds me I need hinges today!

PS- I cannot live without my crockpot either, Love meatloaf done in the crockpot.

oh sure, spook, preserving food in crocks came WAY before everybody had canning jars and all that...anyway, who would think of doing sauerkraut without a crock? and certain pickles...the list goes on (but we won't be canning or preserving any real "crocs" this year...uh-oh, there I go again!

There is just no hope for me!

I know what you mean; most of our "neighbors" out here in the sticks are cows...or coyotes!

God Bless you for understanding! LOL. We do still have a crock that doesn't get used anymore (we don't eat or drink that much), instead its boughten salt pork and salt poured over it again and in a container in the frigerator. Great for wounds...but that is another scientific no no. But we aint died yet so either I'm way lucky (not!) OR there was something to it.

"Crocks" don't do too well up here in VT!

Pottery crocks, used to soak pig fat in it to cure them with salt, pickles used to get pickle and lots of wine comes out of crocks.
What type of crock are you talking about ChickaD? I More then likely I spelled it wrong.
(I need to find a hobby, something to entertain my mind and hands, I'm just wandering around being useless.)
Although I have been handy today, worked on Bantam Hutch, painted the inside white to brighten it up, put some of the locks back on. Cant wait to have those 2 babies off the back porch- yes the same porch that the morning glory is thriving in! lol. Seems like everything has run amuck! Including the 3 am crowing of a certain little roo in the tote!!! He needs a real place to live, now tomorrow I get to go to the hardware store and buy some real hinges. Oh joy.
Stay warm, its coming...that white crap, its a coming! :thun

spook
my grandpa used to salt cod in crocks and bite you tounge when you feel like mentioning that white crap

Oh no! You two talking about IT...and what did it do last night in the mountains around here? That's right...the four letter word starting with S!
