Hi Janis,

I think I'm about an hour North of you!

Ok, which one of you yahoos ordered this CRAP!
Omg, I have shoveled, and shoveled and done more shoveling
barnie.gif
. DH has too, but I have had that tractor stuck so many times that I'm crying now as I type. Its so frustrating to live on a glacier and then get over 2 1/2 feet of snow. Then the snow unloads from the roof into the driveway- not of my design for driveway or addition. UGH. Somebody please promise me that I'll have a good spring. I've fallen and walloped my head enough times , 2 times both really stupid things to have done.
So, I'm in, relaxing and after I get the front tire blown up (blown up...perhaps TNT- anyone have recipes? lol- its paid for...) I doubt that I could get the insurance Co to believe it was a ice chip- huh.
Ok, feeling better, I have a Tim Horton's coffee in front of me and the anxiety attack- exhaustion and frustration are easing. Thanks for listening!

I may be posting this in the entirely wrong forum - if I am feel free to redirect me!

We haven't bought chicks before - I was hoping to find a source of local chickens in lieu of Paris Farmers, etc.

I'd like to support the local farming community and also try to get breeds that aren't as "popular" to do my part to keep those lines going.

Any ideas, suggestions?

Oh Kell,
I hear your frustration.

You are NOT having a good day. I hope it gets better soon too.
The worst of the weather is behind us I think, we are more than half way through winter.
Pretty soon it will be spring and you will be planting veggies and watching the chickens, you also have that new pair of turkeys to look forward to. Its good to
rant.gif
and get it out of your system.
Take care.

We got 24-25" of snow. My poor dogs (who are medium and large) are
up to their necks in the low spots! Spent all morning shoveling for them
so they'd have a spot to "go"! It will be a while before I'll be able to let the geese out of the barn! Pore chickens will be in until May at this rate!

Thank you so much for your kind words, and yes, that is another issue that was on hand, DH isn't content with the nice job he did on the pen for the Turkeys. I think its wonderful, he is such a perfectionist and praise doesn't help with him. But I tell him how good he is in hopes that it sinks in one of these days.

I did, just needed to blow off steam, count my bruised body, rested and then went out and finished up all that I can for today.
Banter, you are soooo right, the snow is deep, we are not to far from you, just on the other side of Bridgeton/Harrison.
Our town trucks/plows, 1 went into a ditch up on the hill 'behind' us, I guess plowing he dropped into the rocky ditch, 3 hours it took them until they hooked on with another plow truck and a skidder!
Then the plow truck that was pulling the other was over heated, something happened and it went into flames. Guess it was minor from the lack of fire dept tones and sounds! lol.
So, we are not the only ones that had a rough time, pretty minimal by the sounds of others.
Winter is rough, but when the sun shines this time of year, its amazingly warm!
So, thank you all for hearing my gripes! And banter- makes you really wonder how the grass and trees can green up after all this!
Have a great day

Let me extend a snowy invitation to all you Mainers to come to Vermont to take a rest from 2 feet of snow and all the chaos that comes from it~!!

You would love it here today~! Only 9 inches of snow.
But, we have 40 mph winds , 18 degrees and white outs across most of these steep rural roads today.
I drove at 20 mph, in second gear, all the way to the farm to feed the herd this am and almost drove right off the road-TWICE, cause I couldnt see the road~!!!!

Trust me, spring is very near. Robins, by the hundreds, have been in all the orchards up here since January 11th. 50 of them are in our apple trees almost every day. I have photos. Keep the Faith.

Spring WILL come ( thank goodness for tractors~! )
The Red Sox will Win again.

mermaidgoat,
Most grain stores are ordering chicks in a month or so for May delivery.
Call around to all your grain stores and see what breeds they are getting and put your order in.
Local is better.

Also, find out where the poulty bird swaps will be.

Does anyone know where all the bird swaps in Vermont are going to be and when ?
How about NH ?

Also, What BREEDS of chicks are you looking for ?
You might be able to find them right here within this New England group.
I have 6 breeds of chicks coming from 4 different locations and I am driving to all of them to get them.
3 are in VT, one in Mass.
It will be a spring adventure~!! Best yet--I am trading maple syrup for chicks~!!

Hello to Molly and Janis.

Boy do I feel for all you folks up north. I'm very tired of winter but you guys are getting pounded. Thankfully I didn't have to plow anything on this one, like Reinbeau said, all rain down here.

I saw my first flock of Red wind blackbirds yesterday!

Look on the bright side everyone, we turn the clocks ahead in 12 days!

Bill

Check out the chickenstock in your state, there must be some, but I have not paid much attention.

I have a flock with MG, most of us do, and if not, then the wild birds will bring it...so I was thinking about my rooster needy girls, they are acting terrible!!! I'm shocked with some of the antics. So, I was thinking about borrowing a roo from the same flock of NPIP tested flock that my girls eggs came from.
Then they could be reminded why they don't need a roo, but instead, get that all out of their systems.
I have a bantam roo but they just about laugh at him as he did the "baby do you wanna dance", er, I was laughing as he had climbed aboard and poor hen ran, dragging him behind with only being attached by beak and neck feathers!
I think I have to much time on my hands!
Yes, I've see Robins, but they have stayed all winter. I should get a pic because not all of us have seen such a thing. I always assumed someone was pulling my leg, wrong. LOL.
Have a wonderful night, see you in the morning light!
