Hot Tea, green or black will help also and a Tsp or2 of honey. there are also certain teas that will help with constriction and relieve some of the scarey symptoms, but have to look them up. I want to think Yarrow tea is great for breathing difficulties.
Chances are that his diagnosis of " croup" was in fact Asthma in the first place, Its a common misdiagnosis.
Both you and your son can get through the scarey parts of an attack with light meditaion.
I try not to use medications, especially my rescue inhaler, (to me it tastes and smells like the air in a tire eww)
Sitting on a bed or comfy chair and picturing a still quiet place with deep breathing can most times relax constricted airways.
I try to visualize sitting by a stream and the air I am breathing in is coming off the water all fresh washed and crisp.
Being able to control the breathing as we know panic restricts the airways more, is going to go a long way in using the rescue inhaler as often.
Hope this helps a little...
