Well, I'm impressed! You said you hoped to be done by December. I take a little while longer. I have a block-of-the-month quilt from 1988 that is still not done.

I was waiting for the dog to die, but then another came along, so it still can't go on the bed. All my other quilts did get done, but not in two months, ever!

Funny you should say that. I have two brand new quilts I made recently in the linen closet waiting till my almost 13-yr old dog passes on. She tends to jump on the bed during thunderstorms and I can't bear the thought of her messing up all that work!

Be creative....think outside the box! Go to Joann's and get some of the thin clear plastic for less than 4.00 per yard. Throw it over your beautiful quilt when you're not using it and the dog is. Take it off when you have company or go to bed (and fold the quilt back over the foot board). That way you can see your quilt but not worry that it will be damaged.

Gosh, I wish I even had a fabric shop anywhere near here! Haven't seen a Joann's in many years. All we have are the expensive quilt shops, a small Walmart fabric dept, a flea market quilt shop with very limited supplies, and that's it. And the Walmart one is going bye-bye next year when they remodel, they say.

Well, had to buy batting. Thought I had a queen size piece I bought at a yard sale, but someone had cut off the width, leaving it several inches too short. Anyway, it's marked, sandwiched, pin-basted and ready to start the quilting process.

Thanks! I've already done a good bit of the center medallion. Will just keep on trucking. If I can set a good pace, I may have this ready for him before I promised it, which was sometime in December. Would love it if I could get it done by first to mid November. It's been fun, really. I like the "design as you go" type quilt.
