Hello from Redmond, WA! I bought my first home last year, and it came with a really nice chicken coop + run. At first, I didn't think I was going to use it, but this June I somewhat spontaneously decided I wanted to have chickens!

I live alone and have been long in need of a pet. I did a lot of research, and got an indoor brooder setup and ordered 6 bantam chickies from Meyer hatchery. They are currently 3.5 weeks old and all healthy and adorable. I am smitten and adore them (I have a couple favorites...). I always imagined I'd get a dog or something Never thought I would own birds but here I am. I love it and I'm excited to be a part of this forum with many other chicken lovers.

My chicks are getting to be so active and curious. They've developed so quickly and learned new things, like dust baths and how to clean their feathers. It's amazing how these behaviors are innate and don't need to be taught by another chicken.

I take my chicks outside on warm and sunny so they can get some of their energy out and explore a bit. They seem to really love it, and I enjoy watching them and taking photos. They are still living indoors because it's <60F outside at night and they are still growing feathers. I'm not totally sure when I will transition them outside because they are developing their feathers at different rates.

Here's an introduction to my chicks:
  1. Splash Silkie - "Silkie"
  2. Black Silkie - "Poppy"
  3. (Light Grey) Green Queen - "Violet"
  4. (Black and White, Frizzle) Green Queen - "Leia" (likely cockerel)
  5. Easter Egger - <unnamed>
  6. Mille Fleur D'Uccle - "Chewy" (suspected cockerel)

Violet really took to me petting her, and now she begs me to pick her up so she can perch on my hand and take a nap or clean herself. I love her, and I think she likes me too. She is the most developed bird so far, and she has a very special place in my heart.

Chewy is adventurous and a real stunt devil. She's quite good at flying already, and has made it out of the brooder box several times (then calls mom to help her back in). She regularly sits on top of the "anti-roost cone" of the brooder. In the past few days I started noticing a spiky comb so I'm worried she might be a cockerel :(

I love both Silkies. The Silkie breed is what initially pulled me into chickens. They are insanely cute, and still so small. They don't seem to mind being held and petted, but they're not always willing and super eager and seem somewhat afraid of being picked up. I hope with time they will be more okay with it.

The Easter Egger is really photogenic and sweet (also very soft), but for some reason I just haven't found the right name for her yet.

The small Green Queen had some issues with pasty butt at first, but thankfully she's made it through. She has begun developing frizzle wing feathers. This week, an orange comb began emerging and now I'm pretty certain about cockerel (Leia is Luke?).

(Looking back on these pictures makes me shocked at how much they've grown! It's crazy)

Hope you all enjoy these photos. There's a lot more on my phone! :D

Welcome to BYC and congratulations on your new home, and your new flock! They are so adorable. I don't see any that would make me think cockerel just yet. I've found that identifying gender with bantams is easy by 6 weeks. Good luck! I hope they are all pullets!
