Just got 8 hens that were already laying, as told that the move and new coop would shut down their laying for a few days, also I had one that got away from me and is living on its own that I can't seem to recapture no matter what I try. How long do I have to keep them confined to the coop before I can let the roam free during the day

I would keep them confined to the coop and run for two weeks so they think of the new digs as home..Chickens can not handle stress very well...Once you do free range for the first time, do it about an hour before dark so they will return to the coop/run to roost..

Good luck
