Hello,
I've just joined today after finding your site while looking for information to help my girls. We got six Rhode Island Reds last spring - Peep, Mocha, Squeeky, Ginger, Sally and Kevin. Unfortunately Ginger was killed by a hawk a couple of months ago so we are down to five girls. Our family LOVES these chickens! I have a husband and four daughters (two still at home) and a golden retriever who doesn't bother with the chickens at all.

I'm excited to be part of this forum. I was involved in 4H many years ago but only with dairy cows so I have lots to learn!

Christa

Wow, Nova Scotia! Welcome to BYC. Rhode island reds are amazing birds, I have three. They're a classic, beautiful, hardy, great layers, great temperament.. I'm really sorry to hear about Ginger. I'm glad to hear you haven't lost anymore. Do they still free range?
They have a large coop so they are in there most of the time but we let them out to free range 2-3 hours every day (depending on the weather). We have a large fenced in yard and they are, for the most part, good to stay within the backyard although I sometimes we get a knock at the door or a phone call from a neighbor to let me know they've gone exploring.

:welcome Hello fellow Nova Scotian and welcome to BYC! You’ve joined a great and resourceful community! Enjoy your journey!!!
Where abouts in NS are you?

By the way isn't Nova Scotia where they filmed the film The Lighthouse?
Yes The Lighthouse was filmed here!
