Morning glories are poisonous from what I’ve heard but I don’t know how much, moonflowers “datura” are definitely toxic, seeds, stems, leaves, sprouts, blossoms, even the pollen. I think there’s only a handful of biological compounds that are more deadly.
Among other garden plants another to keep out of her reach is potato plants. I’ve never seen mine touch tulips, daffodils, or irises so I don’t think they’re much of a concern, though if she does try eating one I don’t think it would be good. I’m not sure if the plant part of the tomato is safe but it is part of the nightshade family so?
If it’s actually clover it’s great for geese, the more clover the better. Other treats I’ve found mine enjoy is lemon balm, dandelions, tomatoes “fruit” carrots”root,” any kind of leafy greens, melons, cucumbers, broccoli, blueberries, blackberries, plums, peaches, cherries, pears, apples, and corn leaves. Geese are all individuals, what one likes others may not so it can be a process figuring out what they like. If they see you eating it they’re more likely to want to try it, sometimes if you put it in water for them to play with they’re more likely to decide they like it.
If she’s sees you or a family member touching a plant you don’t want her eating while gardening she might interpret that as meaning that plant is edible, so what I do with mine is I flick and wring my hands and say “YUCK” if they see me touching the forbidden plant. The hand wringing mimics what they do when they shake and fling something horrible tasting out of their mouth and they can learn to associate the word “yuck” with a bad taste.
Also for your pumpkin problem, pumpkins put fruit out pretty readily, the only years I’ve seen them not is when they weren’t pollinated or something ate them “like the geese.” It’s actually really easy to self pollinate pumpkins though if that’s the problem, you just pluck off the stamen, put it into the female flower and wrap the petals around to keep it in place.
I also had an idea, another temporary shade plant that’s safe you could try if the vines don’t work out are sunflowers.
. Good to know about the squash and pumpkin though. I will definitely give it a go. And thanks for the moonflower tip. I believe it’s a morning glory. I read that those were bad. Do you know anything about clover weeds? I have a good few growing in my yard. Heck, I think I used to eat those when I was little.
