New Hampshire!

that is about what I am getting too. I had two showgirls laying but they both went broody. All my girls are 6 or 7 months old.
Since you raise showgirls and silkies I thought Id ask, what does your set up look like for them, especially in winter. I have and Idea on how I want to set my coop and pen up to keep them cozy in the winter but thought Id see what everyone else does it in our area.

I had 2 silkies previously and LOVED them but they were both cockerals so I rehomed them. Im awaiting a batch of silkie hatching eggs for the NYDH, Im super excited!

Anyone else from NH joining the NYDH?

I'm supposed to be getting some Tolbunt eggs from Cardinal Ridge Farm that I ordered 5-6 weeks ago. I might be "accidentally" joining in on this one, lol. My last batch of "babies" just went from the upstairs to the basement brooders on Wed and the incubators been off for 2 whole weeks now. Just got my 1st blue eggs this week from one of the CL birds who's in with the Marans.

Yay! Hope you can join.

I accidentally joined too when I told DH I wasn't gonna do it but my finger slipped and I hit enter after I typed "yes Id like 2 dozen eggs please" lol. Its always an accident I cant help it. I later fixed that accident by telling DH it was our 3DDs Christmas present, he couldn't really argue that lol. Im so mean.

How old is your CL pullet that just laid? Mine are getting close to 20weeks I think, but still look quite far off from laying.

This one isn't from BB13 but from a NPIP/MG tested friend from MD. She was a few weeks old in June so I'm not really sure of the age. I was surprised to find she laid at all as the days are so short. I'm lucky to be getting 8-10 eggs a week now from all of them. I've got a couple of other breeds that "should"be laying as well. I don't want to light the coops but might end up putting the heat lamps out as I'm already tired of the breaking ice in the morning.

Agh the waterers are the worst. For right now I bring all my waterers in each night when I lock all the birds up. Then I refill them with warm water in the morn and bring them back out.

Yup, I've thought of that but have yet to implement it. Another thought was to switch to the black rubber bowls and dumping them out at the end of the night. Saw these in Walmart for $4 ea the other day. Saw a 5 gallon water canister on amazon I could fill up in the morning and lug around coop to coop too. Last year we used the heat lamps over the waterers but I was trying not to use them this year, drives up the electricity.

Last year I did the dishes and dumped the ice and refilled it. I also have a 5 gallon water container I use to fill the waters outside. I need to get some of the rubber dishes like you saw for this year last year I used plastic and they often cracked because of the ice. I wont use heat lamps I tried once in once coop and the roosters got frostbite heat and moisture bad combo in the dead of winter.

I could only find them at TS last year and they were fairly expensive for the number I needed but Santa got me two. I was in the Hooksett Walmart last week and they were in the pet isle now for around $4 each, much better. I picked up two more then but am planning on picking up more for the other coops. Sounds like a better plan than breaking ice! In the spring I'll go back to the other ones to help keep the poop out.
