New Hampshire!

If doing this keep in mind that MG/MS have vertical transmission.

X2 very good suggestion on some things to remember when hatching for others. Allowing all sources of eggs to be in your incubator and then chicks in your brooder, just be careful and picky with who you choose for customers, never feel bad asking too many questions. And never feel bad turning someone away or declining a certain customer.

those are all good points , some i had not yet thought of i think i need to get a couple more brooders built if i were to do this type of hatching now as far as MS/MG ................ chicks i hatch for people can have one of these rite out of the eggs???? if so forget that! i go to the chicken swaps over in Sanford Me. i always keep any birds i bring back from there in a different coop & i don't allow them to mix with the rest of the flock no point in taking chances with all of my other birds thanks piglett

Yes some diseases are transferred from the hen to the egg and then to the developing chick that hatches. If that were to happen that chick could pass that to the other chicks in the brooder as well as your entire flock if you yourself aren't careful to clean yourself when working between the chicks and your existing flock. Im sure those chances are slim and we all take those chances every time we buy fertile hatching eggs or chicks from other flocks. Just becareful the source.

Yes, chicks can have it at birth.

Here's some info from the British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture fact sheet:
"vertical transmission, which is transfer from hen to progeny through the egg, is an important

means of spread in poultry. Th e organism can be found in the eggs of infected hens
and the semen of infected roosters. It is important, therefore, that poults or chicks are
acquired from breeding stock known to be free of MG."

CP I've got to get you some pics of the Marans x CCL crosses. They're black with feathered legs, a little gold around the neck and have just started with crests. Should be very nice looking birds.

I bet they are adorable!

We had our first hatch of the season this weekend, so here's a little cutie from the hatch. No, she didn't come out of the shell wearing the hat. We had to loan that to her. ;)

scratch that idea folks

i can't see there is enough money in it for me to take that kind of chance even if it's a slim chance.

thanks for setting me straight
