Thanks for the help. Just sent you an email! I have been busy getting and extending gardens and today, finally, the chicks arrived

all are doing well, all 16...got an extra one...I'm no expert, by far, but I think I have 2-3 roos to be? and the rest pullets...I went with Hoffman Hatcheries, the Southern Farm one, never sent the chicks? and finally sent me a refund check....so am starting a bit late...wow is it hot in my cabin with the heat lamp on, but chicks are happy, quite..very...eating, drinking, running around, so sweat I must for a bit LOL ! This week-end is coop building time

have a few people, coming to put up a brandy new one, whoop LOL!!! Pray it doesn't rain !

Oh, look for an email that has Laurie Brown in it...wasn't sure how you sold them...if you could pm me the info or direct me to your website I could know how many to order? I really would like to extend my flock, but in a small way...no big operation here, just food ! Thanks again ~

I have a question about broilers (I'm completely new at this)... are any of the feed stores still selling or ordering chicks right now that you know of? Or do I need to order them online and have them shipped at this point? I don't want many more than 15 or so, as I have some dual purpose chicks I'm growing out as well. I'm in the Concord area. Thanks!

He he he, so very glad for the "guys" help on my new coop ! It has now grown to 10 by 10 and 8 feet tall at front, 7 feet at back, plexiglass windows and an outside reachable nesting box! Whoo Hoo

This is going to end up a McMansion for the 16 BR's I currently just received tuesday, good thing I will be adding to the flock next spring :) Since I started late this season, I think I will build their run in the early spring and just concentrate on making the coop the best I can.

Thank you all for your help, your ideas, especially the coop ideas! One purchase for this winter is going to be a water heater for sure ! I saw a video on youtube about this woman who added Christmas tree branches to her deep bedding and it neutralized the odor to nothing! She collected peoples old trees, after Christmas, and chopped and added them under a layer of shavings...anyone know if this really works? The PH sounds right to zero out the ammonia???

Also, I am trying to decide, whitewash or white paint...I won't have a place to keep my flock, until the whitewash sets up....and the white paint would last longer...any suggestions?

Thanks

I painted mine and there's not one spot that has any signs of a hen pecking at the paint. That's just me thou. I'm sure there will be someone out there that may say something!

Yeah, I too decided to just paint...I think it will last longer and be easier to hose down during cleaning! We down sized a bit, it's 8 by 8 and 7 high in front, 6 in back. This is as far as we got this past week-end.

I think we did pretty well! The nesting boxes will be on the left side and the run in the back, in the "woods". This wooded area is separate from the real woods. Kinda a woods island, so I think it will be a good spot for the chickens to be cool in summer and warm in winter

I would like to know if my chickens born 3/13/13 cockerel Australorp was practicing on a Silkie born approx. the same time. Will he hurt her any should he get it right cuz she's so much smaller than him. I've been after DD to make them (2 silkies) a home of their own. But I didn't think there was such a rush on it! Dam men! lol

I have some bantam pullets and full size Roos and they mate fine if not a bit awkwardly at first. They seem to figure it out. In fact, my Goldie, an EE bantam, is all three Roos favorite girl lol poor thing...
