Howdy, Staying busy here. Girls are laying like crazy. I have been planning out what we are going to plant this yr. and where.. lol gotta mix stuff up you know. :) I am praying all the bulbs I planted last fall produce a lovely array of flowers and fragrents this Spring... I have boxes of glads, calalilies, and dahlias to replant. Most of my veggie boxes need to be resided with roughcut... Soo that will have to be done before we can plant this yr. I am SOOOOO looking forward to getting my hands dirty with rich mother earth :)

I think it is because the Winter has been relatively mild that I am chomping at the bit more and earlier than usual.

What kind of chickens are my neighbors all raising? How many? Eggs, meat or hobby?

I have an eclectic mix of girls ( and 1 oops roo). I have 2 barred rock, 2 buckeyes, 1 australorp (?), 1 buff orp and a NH red roo. I also had and EE but she disappeared :-(.

My girls are pets with benefits! I love hanging out with them and look forward to a few more breeds this spring. I am thinking a dominique (maybe 2), another EE, a speckled sussex and I would love to find a russian orloff. I think they are very cool looking.

Looking forward to letting my flock range some more. they have been "cooped" up for a few weeks. We have a pack of coyotes living on the mountain across the road from us right now, so I am not taking any chances!

Us too! We have already started tomatoes & peppers... added raised beds and are planning to expand garden space this year. We are prepping the greenhouse and hope to have that in full swing by March, at the latest. We never stopped hatching this year, as we are working on getting our Red Dorking program going, as well as improve our Dominique line. My son is getting Nankin bantams this summer, so we hope to have a sustainable flock of them by Fall. Busy, busy..... who says winter is quiet on a farm? LOL

Sounds like busy but great stuff! When you start your seeds do you have a place in your house such as by a window where you grow them?

We use greenhouse shelving (the ones with the plastic covers so we can maintain proper humidity and heat) with grow lights until March, then most everything goes into the greenhouse (which is heated) and is hardened off slowly (moving trays between the indoor setup and the greenhouse daily for a short time)

I do not have grow lights but everything else sounds similar to what we do. There is always so much to learn. It is good dirty fun though

I'm right there with you, I couldn't take the waiting and had to start some pepper seeds, a few herbs too. I'll have to keep them under the grow lights for ages until I can plant them out, since we have no greenhouse, but I needed some green things growing. :)

How are your Doms going? Might have to get some eggs or chicks from you soon, I'm thoroughly hooked on Doms now and working on getting things set up to keep a few more of them!

We are always working to improve our Dominique lines. Our hatch schedule is filling up fast, let me know soon if you want chicks.
