I am new to chickens in general- I had three hens and two ducks, until one of my hens turned out to be a Roo. I traded the Roo yesterday to someone for another hen just a few months older than my 18wk old girls (supposedly) and she strikes me as being ill- though I could be wrong. I'm thinking she may have an impacted crop, but all I have to compare her to are my younger girls who have not started laying yet. She also did not lay this morning and her vent is red and missing feathers around it. I'd love some input from all you more experienced chicken people. Maybe I'm totally wrong and she is just stressed from the change in environment and company. She eats and drinks. But right now I have her isolated just in case.
If it is an impacted crop, is there a way to help her WITHOUT turning her upside down and squeezing her, because that just makes me all kinds of nervous.
