New Hen Respiratory Infection?

I'd never, ever, under any circumstances allow that hen in my flock. You're asking for a boatload of trouble. Quarantine is so you don't allow disease into your flock from outside sources, i.e., newly purchased birds. Ever heard of Typhoid Mary? Coryza and other diseases like Mycoplasmosis make that bird a carrier. In fact, when the former owner said the bird was ill, that would have been my cue to back out immediately.

it can still be carried on your clothes, right? i think i carried it home on me from a chicken auction i went to. but it may have been at a local breeder barn i visited too. his chickens have the same symptoms but he is denying they have anything. i turned his birds down but a friend of mine took a couple home and they died in a matter of a couple weeks.

Yes, you can transmit it on your clothes. That's why folks usually remove their clothing and shoes and disinfect those, then shower off before getting near their flock after attending a show or meetup. Also, you can walk it in from anywhere someone else with it on their shoes has been like a feed store. Everyone who visits and wants to see my birds must spray their shoes at a minimum.

I would think it too late to vaccinate your flock if they have already been exposed to Coryza. I am under the impression that the vaccine is for birds who have not been exposed to it. We are definitely contacting a veterinarian tomorrow. I will let you know what we find out.

Here is a photo of the night we got her.

Hers is shortly after removal of one of the "scabs". I am unsure where the blood came from, if inside the beak or from tearing skin

Here is the other side after we removed the scab

She very rarely will sneeze and there is no coughing. The no sneezing may be because she is clogged up.

OMG, i have never seen anything like that. From your original description it sounded possibly like Infectious Coryza or Mycoplasma Gallesepticum. But those nasal plugs are scary.

i feel so very sorry for that bird, but to protect the rest of your flock, you should take her back to where you got her. i hope you have kept her quarantined and practiced good bio-security (changing shoes between pens, etc.). i don't understand how anyone could sell a bird like that. So irresponsible.

Poor, sweet little silkie.
