New here, in Phila PA

Here's a link for Philadelphia's City Ordinances regarding animals. I haven't read the whole thing, so I'm not sure if it's 'legal' down there.

If you're serious about moving outside the city, Brandywine and Glenside are nice... So is Feasterville. Good luck

Dh's family is from NE Philly; right off Route 1 and Frankford Ave.

I have to say, I agree. DH's mother is a teacher for the Philadelphia School Disctrict and a few of her 6th grade students stole her VW Jetta keys in an attempt to steal her car

Anyway. I am a Realtor here in FL. now. I do suggest you do a search on realtor.com before calling an agent. Because we're ALL hungry right now!

Again, if you don't mind the drive, (traffic will kill you on 422) But like most of these other folks mentioned. Try looking past the Oaks mall. (Past Pheonixeville) My brother lives in Doyelstown. And BOY! Is that ever expensive! I was curious and did a search the other day to see what going on up there...OUCH!

Makes me sick!

Yeah Chickens where outlawed in Phila in 2004, I had some white leghorns in my parents yard as a kid but now your not allowed although I know of atleast two people that still have them, roosters even!

I wont be getting a flock together till I'm outa the city. and I'm still getting my home ready to put on the market so its a few months minimum till I'll be really looking at homes, just trying to get an idea of areas to be sure I dont get stuck.

I lived 9/10 acre in EastOak lane. And we had 6 chicks I raised (Only so my mother could kill them to eat
hit.gif
) Not a week after they wer eaten, (Not by me, I was 16 and their momma) Anyway, The neighbors call the license and inspections people. I think thats who they were. But they were ready to cite us for all kinds of violations. Including to having over 10 dogs! We had 1 St Bernard and a Black lab. So it was my understanding that you couldn't have farm animals within the city limits of Philadelphia. Even back in the eighties when I had my chickens. HMMM?

From what I've recently found online they never took the small farm laws off the books then some laddy I think her last name was smith got into an issue with the city and they outlawed chickens to get back at her. but she already had chickens so was grandfathered in, the whole thing read like a bad mob story.

WOW! You just got my curiousity peaked!

I think its time to take an online trip to the Philadelphia Inquirer website to see if there was a story on it!

Hey, I lived in Philly until moving to the Lehigh Valley. Depending on how far into Philly you need to get, maybe look into the Valley and around Allentown.

I think allentown is just out of reach as far as distance. My girlfriends requirement for the house is that it needs to be an hour or less from swarthmore , media, wallingford area where she's a teacher. I think allentown is atleast 1.5hrs. but that area seems to be the type of area we want.
