New here, incubating goose eggs

Hi there! And welcome to BYC!

Glad your gosling pipped the shell. Now it might take another 24-48 hours (from external pip time) before it will begin to zip, so please be patient. If it broke the shell, most likely the membrane is broken too, although it can be hard for us to see it. Sometimes it makes like a flap, so it only opens when they move. But it should be open enough to allow new air in for the gosling to breathe.

Good luck! Please post pics when the little one arrives!

Got home from work and still no progress I opened the peep hole a little and looks like the membrane is still wet and not shrinking. What should the blood vessels look in the membrane? The Gosling has been talking up a storm whenever were in the house

Can you post a pic?

If you see blood vessels, it’s not ready. They will eventually turn clear(ish) as the blood is absorbed by the gosling. Think of them like a straw. While they are full and red, it is still “drinking”. Once it has sucked all the blood into its body, the blood vessels will turn clear to light pinkish color.

once I saw the veins I stopped. I was worried though that since I hadn't been spraying the eggs daily the shell was too tough and it would get stuck but after seeing the membrane I think it's just not ready
