New here, just got 10 new chicks!

Hey everyone!
I am brand new to owning chickens. I moved to north Georgia a year ago... And once I found out I can have chickens, I was on the path! To be able to have free range eggs from my backyard seems amazing!

I just got in 10 hen "colored egg layers" from TSC that I would appreciate any help identifying what type they are. Day 3 now with them.

I am building my coop right now, should be done in a couple weeks. Coop is 6x6 8 feet tall, 3 feet of that is risen above ground for run underneath and dust bath. The attached run will be 12 feet long by 6 feet wide, 8 feet tall. I will attach pics. I really appreciate any tips or tricks on feeding/watering efficiently.

I'm also looking into making a soldier fly bin to be able to supplement worm for feed/treats... Anyone have luck trying
this?

I appreciate all of you!
Let's Keep them eggs laying!

Welcome to BYC!!

Welcome! You're sure off to a great start! Solid advice to on going bigger. Honestly, even the coop part itself, when you want to add chicks in a year or two, unless there's losses, you're not leaving yourself much extra room to grow your flock there, either. We hope to be building our own coop / run soon too, and I feel like that really is the golden rule - You'll never regret over building. :)

:welcome

Hi, you mentioned black soldier flies in your intro...this is a link to an article in the Learning Center where another member documents how they raised them: nabikis-black-soldier-fly-project.76873

Best of luck with all your plans!
