Since you have a cockerel, you have the luxury of having him in a diaper without having to worry about an egg. I would get a few diapers and let him have free range in the main area. For the time he can't free range, bird toys, a mirror, and the Nick, Jr channel are good alternatives to your company. When it's time for bed, cover his coop or turn out the light, he will quiet down. He can also learn a routine and will get used to when bedtime is, and may even start going to his coop on his own. Be patient with him, he'll adjust.
