Thanks to Nifty and the Mods for the fantastic job ya'll do to make this such a friendly site, free from the "uglies" that circulate on the web. I love BYC

and enjoy my time here. It is so much fun to share with fellow poultry and farm animal people that are just over the edge as I am.

Yes, that's a tricky one and we may reword it. Basically, we don't prohibit those topics, but there may be cases where someone crosses the line. For example:

A topic that would be fine:
"Hey, anybody here ever go to a Mormon church service? What do they do?"

A topic that would be considered trolling / breaking our rules:
"Can you believe that jerk politician passed this totally stupid law?!? He should be shot!"

Keep in mind there will always be subjectivity, context, etc. that will impact the warnings and the points. This system just aids in keeping things better organized and even more transparent for our members.

That one is going to be tricky, because so many times the OP has innocent and genuine intentions, and then others come on and turn the thread bad. But I suppose the culprits who turns it negative would then receive the points, not the OP, correct?

Good question! SO many threads get shut down..and its not the OPs fault..its others that come in the thread and cause problems..

Serious question, and I don't mean this to sound picky, I mean it seriously:

Rule #14 says "No discussions about animal rights organizations or Cock fighting " I thought the rules originally said PETA & cock fighting, but I could be wrong. I ask because sometimes people will post about having or finding a neglected chicken, and I like to suggest "Farm Sanctuary" as a possible source to donate the chicken, where it will be raised on their wonderful farm. I've also mentioned in the past that I've volunteered for them and recommend them frequently. Is this now a no-no? I would not bring them up in a controversial way, and they really don't have any bad press, they simply raise neglected and abused farm animals and they can be a wonderful resource. Can I use my discretion on this and mention them when it's in an appropriate context?

1) Do the points ever expire?
Say you get a point and after 375 days you get another. Would you then have 2 points or would the first one be expired in a year? Every one can make a mistake and forgiveness is divine ( or is that "divine" remark against the rules?). I belive they should expire in a year.

2) How strick is this thing? I personally have only once seen people getting out of hand. I started a thread once and it was getting pretty angry and political, to keep it going I reminded responders about the rules and asked to keep it civil so the issue could be worked out. They did and the thread continued. Thank Goodness for me since I really needed the input and lurkers who occasionally jumped in stated they did too. If the thread had been shut down immediately, the info would not have been gathered and the thread could not have been re-started per the rules.

Thank you Nifty and all the moderators! It's a great site I feel comfortable on because of the "cleaness" of it all. Curses are always tounge-in-cheek and spelled out "@^)^*%$*" instead of the first and last letter with dashes inbetween. I'm an older person and I'm definitely not a prude but appreciate the way this forum is run. I just wanted to thank you again.

Yes, when someone else caused a thread to go into an inappropriate area, thy will get the warning.

The way in which we moderate won't really change. The number and degree of "warnings" we give will be the same. The great jobs our moderators do will continue as they have, and when there is something that is in a "gray area" our staff will discuss it as a team and then make a group decision on that item as we usually do.

For all intents and purposes: Business as usual.
