In the Brooder
Hi! I'm finally signing up after getting advice for a long time from this sight as just a visitor. I finally had time to do it! ha
I'm a full time stay-at-home chicken mom of many. I think there's around 50 now with the new chicks hatching sporadically. My flock currently consists of:
Dominique Roo & Golden Cuckoo Marans Roos (young)
Hens-
Gold & silver laced wyandottes
Black copper marans
Exchequer leghorn
Blue, lavender & buff orphingtons
Black Jersey giant
Wellsummers
Australorps
Ameraucanas
Blue Splash & White marans
Golden Cuckoo marans
Easter Eggers
Speckled Sussex
Dominiques
Barred Rock
Marans/Welsummer chicks
The true leader of this pack is my girl Lillie Sue - she's a small Dominique with a huge personality!
They all free range on about an acre with some good woods.
They also share their yard with 2 pot bellied pigs (which seem to keep the night predators at bay because Penelope Pig ends up crashing out in the lower coop every night ) and there's a tom cat named Smokey that patrols the area as well as our black lab Scout. Its great harmony out there until a plate of "leftovers" arrives - lol!
I'm crazy about my marans & the marans breed in general. They've become my favorite type of hen (I can't say I love the roosters because they can be real....well, you know).
*And I'm always looking for a good marans breeder around N. Texas if you all have any suggestions.
Think that's it!
