Good morning!
I am a brand new chicken parent and wanting to know how long will it take for our girls to settle in and start laying eggs. We went with three sexlink adult hens roughly 2 years old because I didn't want raise chicks and wait for them to mature. Now I'm being told that they might be too old??? We have only had them for three days and kind of just assumed we would have eggs already. Do they need more adjustment time or more likely that they are past their prime? And yes, I know, I should have done more research first :-(

Chickens are creatures of habit and any stresses can prevent ovulation. A move to a new home is stressful for anyone. Just let them get adjusted to their new surroundings, provide good nutrition, fresh water, big ventilation and clean conditions. Eggs will come.

They are "past their prime" but they'll still lay once they get settled in. They might not lay as frequently as younger hens would, and the eggs may be a little less perfect, but you'll still get eggs.
