New Jersey

NJChix, I just returned my last roo sat. morning because he was just too loud. I loved him because he was very tame and treated the girls well. I cried all the way back home and was still upset hours later and I wasn't even PMSing. LOL! The other rooster we had was kind of mean and it was much easier to give him back. I promised myself that I wouldn't get anymore unsexed chicks but I ended up getting two more Jersey Giant/RIR mix chicks. I guess I didn't learn my lesson. Man I hope they are girls!

ming ming- that sewing post is a riot!!! sad thing is it's real :) I write this while i have dirty dishes in the sink and my hair is unkept.

Shadow rabbit- my polish is a buff laced. I don't think there was gold laced.

I was afraid I would cry and I've just been putting it off, I don't know why. He's a nice boy too. My one neighbor actually said he like the rooster crowing(can you believe it) and the other said he thinks it's making his dog bark which is annoying everyone. I wanted to say, "Really! Your dog has been barking on/off day and night for the last two years. I can't believe you haven't been fined yet". But I didn't. I agree about buying sexed chicks. If they could all be sexed at birth some how it would be great. That's why the ones I'm getting in August will be about six weeks so they can be sexed. I hope yours are girls.

What a day I had yesterday. On Sunday I was bit by a sick feral kitten that was hiding under a bush. My dog was super interested in what was under it so I finally went over to look(thought prob a baby bird) and when I reached down to move the branch it bit me. It was all black and in the mulch which helped camoflauge it. We moved it out of the yard to behind the fence and it stayed there for a few hours. Looked about 8 wks old, skinny and had flies buzzing all over it. Called police who called animal control who never came and guess what, cat was gone. Now guess who got six shots yesterday, me. I'm sore now. The biggest problem was it was visibly sick and me and my husband said we can't see this thing waking away so we don't know what happened to it. I only had a five day window to start the shots and since animal control wasn't working on Monday I felt best just starting them and that's what was recommended by county health dept. Animal ctrl wasn't working Monday either so the only way I can avoid the next three shots is if they catch it and it tests negative then I can stop. Probably not going to happen. I think it is related to the black cat i see around my yard a few times. I never thought about cats being a threat to my chickens but now i have to consider they are living very close by. It just never stops getting interesting over here.
