Welcome to all of the new comers!
Our neighbor walked over last night to ask if we have chickens because he found a dead one last week in his yard. It was our RIR "Chickie". The one the opossum took. We got to bury him and my son collected a bunch of shells and stones to decorate the area with. I was so sad but it was nice to have closure. Not knowing where she ended up was really hard. He said he's seen an enormous stray cat roaming around so who knows what it was but the trap is still set and ready.
The remaining girls will be in their summer coop (aka, the temporary one in the garage) until their official one is complete. Nothing is getting them in this new coop. It's so sturdy, put it this way, my husband said if we get another one of these crazy storms or worse yet a hurricane, we are all going out and getting into it.
I'm sorry you had to re-visit the whole thing all over again, but It was nice you got to bury her and get closure finally. It's a good chance then, that maybe it was a cat. Maybe try some stinky tuna cat food. Keep it set in hopes of getting any predator. I worry too when my girls are out all day.
I'm glad your coop will be safe for them. I'm still doing some tweaking. Some trial and error always.
