Hello everyone, my husband and I are thing of getting a few backyard chickens and possibly a rooster, does anyone know the regulations in Howell, NJ?

I drive past houses all the time in Howell, and see chickens in many people's yards. I don't see why they would have regulations. It is a farm town, but you would probably call your local zoning director as some areas may or may not have different rules.

WELCOME!! If your thinking of a few (we all know how that goes ) I say just do it. The only problem I see would be the rooster. How close are your neighbors? They may like the doodling in the AM or not. I have one neighbor that loves it and one that isn't thrilled. I have chosen at this time not to have a rooster but may rethink it this year. I am allowed to ave one and rehomed him after he found his lungs. Good luck.

Does anyone know what kind of roster this is? he is about 7 months old now. The man we bought him from had a box of all kinds he wasn't too sure of.

Ok that's one creepy egg. It doesn't have eyes does it? Lol. If that's her first I'm sure the next will be fine. I had three softies in a row before Ruby the marans got a hang of it. She was the only one that ever did that. It's Saturday morning and I'm waiting for the sun. Come on sun! I got five eggs two days in a row. Must be the little bit of extra light I noticed lately. Ahh spring hurry up and get here.

Anyone have a springtime wish list. I was thinking of getting a Sebastopol goose. I know crazy

Hey guys! It's been a while since I've checked in here! Glad to see we still have lots of New Jersey peeps around!

I just started getting a second egg a day and I am very excited about that! I have about 24 hens but they all hit laying age when it was getting cold so they never really started. I was missing my fresh eggs! My dad just installed a new light in the new coop so we are hoping they start to lay more now. We also have an awesome skylight type thing in the roof of the new coop but I guess the winter daylight hours are just not enough for them to lay.

I'm still thinking about getting some chicks in the spring to raise. I'm not sure yet though because I'm leaving for school in August and want to make sure I have enough time to let them settle before I leave.

What is everybody's spring plan as far as chickens go?

I will be getting three more bantams. My birds are all hatchery quality, and two are mixes (EEs) so I want some birds that I can show in 4-H.
