New Jersey

Looks like a I got a surprise rooster when I picked up a couple of speckled sussex chicks back in April. I am afraid at some point I am going to have to rehome him if anyone in South or Central Jersey is interested (I am in Blackwood/Williamstown area). They both are the sweetest little things, so friendly, docile, and curious. They greet me and come to me every morning. I feel like the other is going to be lost without him. Here is a pic of him...... They have recently been integrated with my 3 other hens and are doing well.

Hi and welcome to BYC. I also have 4 black copper marans cockerels that need to be rehomed. On every Tuesday there is an auction at Cedar Lane Feed in Elmer. They auction hay, livestock and all types of poultry. The auction starts at 1, all animals and stuff must be there by 12. You can leave if this is too stressful and they will send you a check.

I looked up the auction and it seems awesome, but I’m curious if you need any vet paperwork or NPIP certification to sell there? It says all animals are screened, do they screen them or do they need to be screened prior, taking quail to the vet in order to sell them for a few bux is not really cost effective for me.

I called them today and they sound amazing! I asked the lady if she thought it was worthwhile for me to drive 2 hours to bring 40 quail chicks, and she said definitely. So tomorrow I’m taking my chicks and 9 adult males and dropping them off for the auction. She said you don’t have to be NPIP or anything, they have them looked at by a vet before the auction. I’m gonna see how much that brings me, I estimate it’s about $25 in gas and tolls. If I get a check for $80 or more, I’ll plan to go once every month or so.

I hope it works out for you. I am lucky because I don't live too far away. I can not make it to the auction today, but next week these young BCM cockerels will go. Unless someone wants them so here they are
