Hightstown, New Jersey. Have 16 hens and one roo. Just got 4 cuckoo maran pullets over the weekend. Just wondering , do they winter well in our climate? Anyone have experience with them? My others are RI Reds, Ameracaunas, and Orphingtons, which all do fine in our state.
This is a reminder to all that the NJ State Fair will be running from August 6th to August 15th, 10 to 10 daily, closing at five on the last day. The Sussex County Poultry Fanciers holds a show during the fair, and their are usually some birds for sale and chicks hatching. The 4Hers put on a great show as well. LOTS of animals - check the fair schedule carefully to see when your favorite dairy, beef, goat, or sheep will be there, as they rotate according to the ring schedule. Great Rare Livestock tent. This is NOT the fair that was held for many years in the Meadowlands -this is a really agricultural-based state fair. Everything can be seen in one day, but get there when it opens. Bring money to get some delicious local vegetables and fruits right across from the poultry building. Don't forget to check out the Jefferson Diner on the way home!
I'm preparing for the Warren country farmers fair which takes place the first week in august. Anyone else planning to attend? I will be there all week and I just order 100 pullet chicks to have for sale! I always look forward to this week.
I also plan on attending the sussex fair, but I have to find someone to go with me!
