Couple weeks ago I bought four chicks at the feed store, despite having four others in the brooder due to go outside in two weeks (put those older ones outside this last Friday). Had to scrounge up another Rubbermaid tub for the new chicks, for two weeks, but they're small and the heat lamp went to them since the others didn't need it any more.
Here are the ones that went outside:
I've posted before that I saw all those wonderful photos of white EEs on BYC and decided then and there I wanted one. That's what happened at the feed store; there was a white EE in the "Ameraucana hens" bin along with all the chipmunky ones.
Couldn't have just ONE white chicken - needed another to take the aerial target off her back. Hmmmm. Delaware!
Then I glanced in the straight run bin of bantam Sebrights, from where I bought the two nearly ready to go outside. Oh, no! There's a chick left over from a couple weeks of deliveries, much more feathered and larger than the other 3 day old chicks! Had to rescue it. Seems most customers prefer to buy the cutest, tiny fluffy ones. And look! There's are a few GOLDEN Sebright chicks there, too - and one was a bit more feathered than the others. Weren't any goldens when I bought the 2 silvers..... Snatched one of those up.
Here are the newest chicks:
I have a feeling the Golden Sebright is a roo, just from its personality. See what I mean? Plus, there's a touch of a comb ALREADY beginning to show, and not so for the Silver. Nor did the older Silvers grow their combs this early.
The Golden has quite a 'tude and is already bossing the other three chicks around. In this photo, it's certainly got something to say about something! (The flash scared the other three.)
Now I am waiting to discover what their names will turn out to be.
