New kitten help please - updated apres vet

He has a name.

Feller kept wanting to call him Thomas.

I wan't thrilled by Thomas as I thought it a little too common, so we compromised and his name is Twm (Welsh for Tom).

Welcome to a lifetime (cat lifetime anyhow) of spelling that name for veterinary receptionists on the phone, and pronouncing it for vet techs and vets once you get there

LOL, have fun with him

I would take him to the vet that is not normal he is not eating or drinking is lethargic and is vomiting and just generally sick so that is not normal so I would go get him checked out at the vets office just to be sure good luck.

Oh sorry didnt see the last few pages/posts only the first ones but now I have glad to see he is feeling better. now is that pronounced twim or tom? he sounds very cute. I hope everything checks out ok at the vets. good luck with him. enjoy!

If you feel he is dehydrated give him some chicken broth and then some small amounts of chickens. I had a sick kitty a while back and it worked wonders. Good Luck with the little guy! Oh, I forced the chicken broth with a syringe.

So we took Twm to the vet this morning.

She thinks he is at best maybe 5 weeks old.

So far we have been doing all the right things - food mixed with KMR and using the syringe to make sure he is drinking.

So far she said that everthing looks good and she wormed him with Strongid and sent some home with us.

He had his first poop this morning - thought he was going to leave an entire intestine it was so long. He has also been peeing just fine.

He is eating from his bowl and is playing up a storm when he is awake.

We are sad that he appears to be so much younger than we were led to believe and neither of us having spent any time with kittens in such a great many years, we really didn't have any sense of how big he should be for 6-7 weeks.

Anyway, so far everything looks good. When he gets to 2lbs, he will go in to get his shots and when he is 5lbs he can get neutred.

He has had a very busy morning, so he is fast asleep on Feller's belly and Purrple cat has decided that she will sit on Feller's lap despite the kitten.

Thank you for all your advice and help.

Cheryl

There now, he'll be just fine. Sounds like he lucked out and got a great home!

In about 2-3 weeks you can start mixing in some dry food with the mash, and about a week after that you can have him solely on dry. Doesn't sound like it was weaned at all, some people!

Just keep putting it in the litter box. Leave any tee-tees it makes to encourage the smell. Take it's little paws and scratch around in the litter with them a few times too, this helps. Little guys this young won't find a litter box very far away, so make sure it's pretty close to where it sleeps and hangs out.

Give it a sugar from me!

Thanks insiderart.

Yup, we left his gifts in the litter box and he is pretty good about scratching around when he needs to go, so we have managed to catch him and move him to the box so far. We have a bigger litter box set up for him in the kitchen and when there is enough left in the little one, we will transfer some of his little gifts to the bigger box so when he is around there and feels the need to go, he will know where.

At night, he sleeps in a crate. We have some fleece set up and I heat up a "happy-sack" (rice in a sock) and slip it inbetween the layers of the fleece and we also have his little litter pan in there. That way he is safe and has access if he needs it.

During the day, he will only sleep cuddled up on a person (usually me) which has not been good for productivity. Fortunately, I'm on holidays for the rest of this week and I work at home.

We really weren't counting on one this young - we actually turned down a 4 week old kitten that was being bottle fed (mother wouldn't nurse it and the owner was overwhelmed) because we didn't think we had the energy to provide the level of care required for a kitten that young. Little did we know.

I'll give him a little sugar from you (like he isn't spoiled rotten already

I have to admit, I'm far more relaxed now.

I think he will be fine now then. It sounds like he is getting better and is pretty much normal now. i still can't believe that he is that young and they lied to you or at least didn't tell you his real age, I wonder if they even knew his age if they were even that knowledgeable! haha lol some people, i tell ya... But he sounds adorable and good luck with the little baby doll! Give him some extra loving from me! good luck with him.
