New kitten help please - updated apres vet

I have to say I'm not real surprised

But I am most excellently glad to hear that his basic problem is being a week or two younger than you thought, and that he is doing well.

FWIW, one of my cats who is 9 now, I got from a rescue woman who swore to me that he was 6.5 wks old and fully weaned. It quickly became pretty clear that he was more like 5 wks old and had probably never seen solid food in his life. But after the first couple weeks of syringe feeding and all that, it was back to normal kitten management, and he has been a wonderful cat (if strange) ever since.

(I should have known not to trust what the woman said -- she lived next door to the barn wehre I boarded my horses and her semi feral pack of loose dogs used to come over and run the horses around on a regular basis, when taken to court she said 'oh but we have invisible fencing' but of course she never actually kept *batteries* in the dogs' collars as it turnd out. Hmph)

Have fun, you and Twm both,

Pat

and I heat up a "happy-sack" (rice in a sock)

This is great I never heard of this! I am going to try it on my new kitten but I have to ask How long do you heat it up for?

I use an old sock of my 10 y/o daughter's. It has about 1c of brown rice adn I heat if for about 30 second or so, smoosh it around a bit to spread the warm evenly and then slip it in between the layers of fleece in his bed.

I decided to do this because he really seems to need the warmth to get to sleep and he is just too young to sleep in our bed. We caved at 3am night before last, brought him to bed and woke up to a pee stain on our sheet. Happily, it didn't leak through the mattress protector.

Thanks!

I am going to use that for the outdoor cats in the winter, I'll make a couple of the socks and put it under their sleeping area to keep warm at night! of course they aren't kittens but I'm sure they will appreciate it!
Oh I'll bet that was a rude awaking!

Good thing it's such a tiny kitten.
