My pretty girl, an Ameraucana EE is the first to start laying in my flock. The first five eggs were small..30, 29, 33, 38, 33, and then late yesterday..55 grams! They are 20 weeks old today. That’s a pretty amazing weight gain, and she’s not a big bird. Anyone else weigh their first eggs? I’m also starting to supplement with all organic paprika, tomato, beet powders, shredded carrot, and the usual dark leafy greens and whatever fruits and veg I can get my hands on, hoping for nutritious and beautiful yolks. I compared to Vital Farms organic, those are the darkest commercial eggs I’ve seen, and even before dedicated supplements they are right on target..(brown is ceramic fake egg..)

Wow! That article you found makes beautiful orange yolks, you should definitely write a BYC article! And it's normal for your eggs to gain weight, mine BR's egg gained pretty quickly and now stay at around 60 grams.

I weighed mine. The first was 17 grams, from my girl who still lays the smallest eggs. Her average is around 48-50 grams now.

The second was 25 grams, from my girl who usually lays my biggest eggs, at 55-60 grams. Both are Black Australorps.

Congratulations! Those are beautiful.

It’s so weird..the Cuckoo Marans and the Black Australorp are so much bigger, yet haven’t started yet. ..the Whiting True Blues smallest of all of them, the Speckled Sussex are in between on the smallish side, twenty weeks old today. Well, when I received them. The Marans are doing more pronounced squatting though..

Was the 55 grammer a double yolk?

I've had pullets eggs get much bigger within day, but most take weeks to months.
I don’t know yet, but I doubt it, it’s one gram shy of a large egg..

She skipped a day after the almost large egg, today back down to 36 grams, when I crack them I’ll see if it was a double..
