Hi from the Pacific Northwest

The Mr. and I brought home our first four four-day-old chicks three days ago. Two Buff Orpingtons and two Australorps. The Mr. is building a coop and run, but not in a big hurry, since I read the pullets should be 6-8 weeks old before we put them out. I'm excited to learn what there is to know from the knowledgeable folks in these forums, so I'll be lurking like crazy on BYC for awhile as we climb the learning curve. There's so much to learn and share. This is great! Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the site and being a new chicken owner!

This is going to be a fun and interesting adventure for you :)

I love this website, there are so many helpful members on here, its a great community

Actually if yours is an area of warm to hot weather, they could venture out sooner (with supervision), you will be surprised how fast they grow and how soon they can fly to the top of their brooder & escape. It's best to have a secure wire top to keep them inside, and pets OUT. Head for the Learning center as a great first step and then branch out to forums that interest you.
