Skunkie
Chirping
Hi, I’m new to the group and to chicken raising, and am already proud of my math skills! I currently have two 4-week old Barnevelders (so cute!) and am going to be picking up six more chicks tomorrow. They will be somewhere around 1 - 2 weeks old and are a mix of two Buff Orpington, two Easter Eggers and two Silver Laced Wyandottes. I was originally planning to start with 4 or 5 chickens - ok, maybe 6. But as of tomorrow I will have a total of 8 and am already wondering if that will be enough!
Realistically though, my coop size will keep me in check.
We live in Santa Barbara county with generally mild weather and lots of predators. I am excited to have eggs (eventually) to help support my baking habit. My other habits/hobbies include cycling and hiking.
I’ll be posting new threads soon with questions regarding our new coop, coop ventilation, security from predators, introducing chicks to each other, etc. I’ve been lurking awhile and have already learned quite a bit. So, thank you!
