Thank you for your concern! I think the extra three will be OK as long as I create enough roosting areas and places for them to lay their eggs. I think creativity with their space is one of the keys to happy hens. If overcrowding becomes a problem I can always bring someone to my grandmother to live with her older gals in her chicken mansion.

That's a gorgeous rooster...

I think the reason why I like my roosters so much is not because of the breed, it's the way they treat the ladies and their overall temperament. They are like Prince Charming's and if I was a hen I would definitely be with these guys :gigSquatch will kill hornets, wasps, anything that flies and will lay it on the ground, then he will make this purring noise and his lady Mama Chicken (Delaware) will come and eat it. He will not let anyone else touch this bug and everyone knows not to.

I actually have an egg in my incubator that has twins from these two breeding. I'm praying that they make it so that I can keep them both and I pray that they are Pullets :fl When Mama Chicken was 16 weeks old I got these Jersey Giant "Pullets" and she would let them sleep under her wings and she even protected them from a black snake that killed my Light Brahma chick. I think that she knew these two would be the top of the flock when they grew up because they were cockerels. She took such good care of them and now they are returning the favor... They watch Mama Chicken all day long and they even go into the coop when she goes to lay her eggs. They are like bodyguards!

Chickens are amazing!

Chickens really are amazing. And I love the way they interact with each other and how mother hens will make the CUTEST noises to their chicks and show them what to eat and cradle them under their wings. Really SO cool that you might have twins!! I also love what you're saying about your roosters, that's what I'm looking for, a gentleman. That's why I won't have a leghorn, I didn't like his courting (or shall I say lack there of) methods. From my experience, the large breed roos have almost always been kinder. You're really selling me here.

I've had several roosters and the only two breeds that I have ever liked were NH Reds and Jersey Giants. The NH Reds would lay in my lap and never once attacked me. I had olive eggers and they were so mean, I sold them all the same day. Once they got the hormonal stage (14 weeks) they were nasty. I raised them from day 1.

Well I have 10 blue/gold partridge chicks right now at 2 weeks. I’ll be getting rid of extra cockerels once I figure out what’s what. I don’t know where your located but I’m in West Tennessee.
