Welcome!

I love dogs!
Very cute!

We will take pics of your chickens too!

Do you have a pic of the four new EE's?

Here are my new new EE cross chicks. The white one I am pretty sure is a pullet, based on her behavior. The two at the bottom fight all the time and act like roosters, also the white and black one I think gave a baby crow! The frizzle baby is obviously younger and smaller than the others and I'm not sure yet about it. They are very pretty, aren't they? That's why I couldn't pass them up!

Hi I am Amy Opoka and I have had chickens for 3.5 years. I have read this forum for a long time but never joined till now. I have added 4 batches of new chickens over that time, right now I have 10 hens and 4 babies about 6 weeks old. I have a mixed flock with Easter Egger, Buff Orpington, Black Australorp, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Brown Leghorn, Buckeye, Cuckoo Maran, and a Comet. My four babies came from a breeder friend and are not sexed, so I am worried they will all be roosters! The problem is they are mixed breed Easter Eggers and I am not really sure how they are going to turn out so it is hard to tell if they are male or female. One I think I heard give a baby crow this morning though when I turned on the lights! All my previous ones were all hatchery sexed so this will be my first experience with roosters. Also this is the first time getting babies in winter, so not sure how long I have to keep them inside before trying to mix them with my flock.
I also have 3 kids and 5 Scottish deerhounds, so all that keeps me busy!
Welcome! Big fan of the mixed flock concept, myself. Glad to have you aboard. How do you like your Marans? I will be receiving a Blue Copper this July and she will be my first Marans. Looking forward to the darker colored eggs.

There is so much information on this site - Like you, I read this site for a while until joining. But the friendships on here are even better. The people on here are so nice and caring - (Because what mean person would ever think of coming to a chicken forum, I ask you??) - and will help you no matter what the case: Emergency, Family Troubles, or maybe just a curious question about poultry!

P.S. Your chicks are beautiful

Quote: I have read that the cuckoo marans lay lighter than the Copper marans, but I really like my hen. I think she is quite pretty and her eggs are medium dark, definitely not super dark. She is also very sweet and very clever! She is from my newest batch of hens, other than the babies I have now, and they are laying quite well so far. I got them as older pullets so they were not that friendly/socialized, and she is the only nice one in the bunch. So quite pleased with her so far. If she is typical of the breed, then I am a fan!
