I live in North Texas along the Red River. Started out with Guinea Fowl to control the grasshoppers. Ended up with a bobcat problem and got down to 6 guinea fowl after starting out with 47. After trapping 7 bobcats I seemed to have solved that problem for now. Also moved my dog pens closer to the coop and that seems to be helping. I now have a number of Golden Wyandottes, Ameraucana, and Silver Spangled Hamburgs. Also raising 7 Bielefelder chciks. All my chickens and guinea fowl are free ranging but they do have a coop to roost in. They all roost together. Had chickens as a child and just started out again with them about 2 years ago.

G'Day from down under Texasnorth :frowWelcome!

I am sorry to hear of your losses but good news also that you may have solved that issue! :clap

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

Hey North Texas, welcome! I am a newbie here also. We have 20 chicken chicks and will be getting 14 grown guineas the end of this month for tick control. So far the chicks are still in brooders in the house as we are buttoning up our bird barn in the next two weekends. We have Araucanas, Ameracaunas, rir, silver laced wyandotte, black sex links, cinnamon queen, red sexlink and 5 marans that are straight run.
