any predator worth his salt can slice through chicken wire like it was butter. 1/2" Hardware cloth is the gold standard of chicken fencing however it has to be securely attached to framing so it can't be pulled or clawed off. No plastic zip ties, they are useless.

Sorry for the loss of your chicken flock.
It sounds like it is time to build a predator proof coop at a minimum, and run if you can afford it. Chicken wire is decorative and only serves to separate chickens within an already secure structure.

I'm sorry to hear about your losses. Some predators can easily fit through 1" spaces which is why 1/2" hardware cloth is recommended, and to keep out digging animals you could also add a 2' apron around the perimeter of your enclosures.
