How are the eggs doing? :welcome
great the first one is hatching but she had tried to kill the other chicks I put under her. I think I have to fire up the incubator and put the eggs in. So terribly disappointed. When I put her on nest on the floor she got up and flew back up to the nesting boxes and got on the eggs that had been laid today. Seems as though she likes being broody and not being a mom.

Some chickens are like that 😔 :hugs

it has gone horribly, I bought her six chicks to add to her clutch and she has tried to kill them 😐😭 I am so disappointed. I now have to not only raise her chicks but the addition chicks that she incubated. she is only about 9 months so I have learned my lesson to not trust a broody that is less that a year.

Sorry things aren't going well.

How old were the chicks that you put under her? Some hens will take chicks older than 3 days but most will not, and some won't accept any that they didn’t hatch at all. I probably would give her another chance next year.
I have had hens that were lousy sitters but good mothers, and good sitters but lackadaisical mothers. Even hens that wouldn't sit but would steal other broodies chicks. I'm fortunate that none were ever chick killers.
I'm sorry things didn't go as planned for you. Good luck with your new chicks!
