We're happy to meet your acquaintance, to read the community's insightful and helpful comments.
We live in an urban area and are happy to join a number of local residents who are raising small flocks on their property.
K and I are first-time chicken owners who just purchased four chicks from Mesa Feed Barn, Mesa, AZ.
Our three-day old (b. 6/29/11) flock:
White Leghorn--Helena
Red Sex Link--Olympia
Barred Rock--Portland
Araucana--Trinidad
Two days in our brooder at home and the flock seems to be doing well, to have sorted out a pecking order already.
We're hoping that our new flock and organic garden can help lessen our environmental impact and reliance on industrial foods.
I'll post some pictures of our brooder, coop, and flock soon.
We also have some questions.
