New Mexico

binders....I have been wondering the same thing. We are new to the San Lorenzo area with no irrigation...so no beautiful green grass! I got 9 chicks and 2 goslings 2 weeks ago. My first geese...and it has been a challenge. Right now I'm feeding chick starter and chopped romaine lettuce. Tried to get a small patch of grass started...with no luck! Had to put them in the bathtub the first week because my new coop doesn't hold the heat. Now it is cold at night (but I put a light in) and hot in the day! That is So. NM high desert! I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Honestly we go through the hassle of taking the chicks and ducklings out in the morning and bringing them back in when it gets to be dusk.

My neighbors are constantly watering their lawns.

I look forward to moving OUT of NM just so I can get some green grass between my toes again!

Lute - We love NM, our adopted home, but there are some challenges! We prefer our issues - over ticks, chiggers, tornadoes, high humidity, etc. LOL! We've lived with them also. But every place has its own beauty. I finally got the goslings out yesterday. They were beginning to eat at the little sprigs of grass available so I think they'll be fine! I'll continue to buy greens, etc. for them until our garden comes in.

Hello from Animas,Cotton City area! I am new to BYC. Ive had Rir gor the last 2 years and lost them to my mistake of forgetting to lock them up. I am expecting my new bunch of babies on June 1st! 27 rirs 5 golden laced polish and 8 guineas! I cant wait! I really would lkke some americaunas and french copper marans. Im excited about turning into the crazy chicken lady! I want to be a hatch-a-holic one day also!

Please try not to come any earlier than 8:40 to set up. No goats, sheep, etc due to livestock rules in NM. Only rabbits, poultry, and farm dogs will be allowed to sell.
